Book Review on "The Rose Society"

Book Review on "The Rose Society" (Might contain spoilers, so be aware)      "The Rose Society" is by Marie Lu and is a part of The Young Elites Trilogy. You may also know Marie Lu through the popular Legend Trilogy. I chose this book because I had enjoyed the Legend Trilogy and I like Marie Lu's style of writing. However, I did not realize it was the second book of the trilogy, so I was slightly confused about what was happening.  According to the blurb at the back of the book, the main character, Adelina Amoutera was having an enjoyable life. Though, her family, friends, and everyone else she loved betrayed and nearly killed her. She is now gathering other "young elites" and planning revenge on the one who almost killed her. This can be extremely intriguing for the reader to read the previous book, but I am not going to be talking about book one in this blog.      After reading the first couple of chapters, I found Adelina to be an interesting charac...

Book Review: "1984" by George Orwell

Image
1984 - Book Report by Isaak Kumar      "Thus, at one moment Winston’s hatred was not turned against Goldstein at all, but, on the contrary, against Big Brother, the Party, and the Thought Police; and at such moments his heart went out to the lonely, derided heretic on the screen, sole guardian of truth and sanity in a world of lies." (Orwell 19)     These statements summarize the main character's realization as he pulls back the curtain of lies to reveal the truth.  1984  is a dystopian novel written by George Orwell, an outspoken advocate for democratic socialism, in 1949. This book, written in the middle of World War 2, explores the possibilities of a German occupation and totalitarian rule over Europe. The main character, Winston, lives as a secretary in the nation of Oceania, once called London. In his work, he drastically changes displeasing but veritable documents to fit the agenda of 'The Big Brother'; the mustached face of Ocea...

Crown of Feathers (book review)

Crown of Feathers (This review contains no spoilers! Enjoy!)               I'll start this review by saying that Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pao Preto is and always will be one of my favorite books. Between the stunning world-building and intense twists, I cannot get enough of this book. The story switches between three perspectives, Veronyka, a war orphan, Tristan, a phoenix rider, and Sev, a soldier. Sixteen years ago, a war between two sisters ripped an empire apart. Sixteen years ago, a phoenix queen named Avalkyra Ashfire led her army of animages and phoenix riders into battle. Sixteen years ago, the last phoenix queen crumbled into ashes, never to return. This left animages and phoenix riders shunned and murdered while the council grew all the more powerful. Veronyka now lives on the run with her sister, Val. As animages, Veronyka and Val are able to talk to animals but, this isn't their only secret. They are also shadowmages and can rea...
